Metallic Stars of Export 2020 got their awards

İstanbul Ferrous and Non Ferrous Metal Exporters’ Association (İDDMİB) awarded successful exporters that contributed to $8.2bn of export in 2019. “Metallic Stars of Export” received their awards with a ceremony held in Foreign Trade Complex of Turkish Exporters’ Assembly (TİM). Participating the award ceremony via video conference, Trade Minister Ruhsar Pekcan said, “Ferrous and Non Ferrous Metals sector takes its place among the most important sectors of our country with respect to production, employment and export.”

Continuously working to contribute to the total exports of Turkey, İstanbul Ferrous and Non Ferrous Metal Exporters’ Association  (İDDMİB) awarded successful exporters. Finishing 2019 with exports of $8.2bn, İDDMİB presented “Metallic Stars of Export” awards. Trade Minister Ruhsar Pekcan, TİM Chairman İsmail Gülle and İDDMİB Chairman Tahsin Öztiryaki attended the award ceremony held at Foreign Trade Complex of Turkish Exporters’ Assembly (TİM). 

“20% increase in first half of September”

Speaking at the award ceremony, İDDMİB chairman Tahsin Öztiryaki, stated that Ferrous and Non-Ferrous Metals exports rose by 20% in the first half of September, Öztiryaki said “our sector has made $8.2bn exports in a rough year such as 2019 and increased its exports by 0.5%. Although the increase is not too high, we made a significant export in a period where half of the sectors receded in exports. In the first half of September, we made a serious increase of 20% compared to last year. By exporting to 208 countries and regions in 2019, we reached every corner of the world with our exports. We witnessed export losses amounting to 50% in the era where the effect of the pandemic was felt the worst. Our government provided us all the support within its capabilities. I would like to extend my gratitude to our President, Our Trade Minister Mrs. Ruhsar Pekcan, all other esteemed ministers and our bureaucrats that raised communication to the top level, selflessly during this process.”

“Turkey continues to diverge positively”

Attending the ceremony via video conference, Trade Minister Ruhsar Pekcan stated that Ferrous and Non-Ferrous Metals sector offered high added value with respect to production, export and employment. Minister Pekcan added “Ferrous and Non Ferrous Metals sector is one of the locomotive sectors of our country with respect to infrastructure, construction and defense industries. It is a sector that grows with effective market and marketing strategies. We closely monitor reports that contain the expectations of organizations such as World Trade Organization and IMF on the outlook of the world economies. Global economy is experiencing its toughest year after the World War 2.

Turkey continues to diverge positively in such a period where almost all world economies have inevitably contracted. We, as the ministry, will continue to stand by our exporters. I individually congratulate each company being awarded.”

“Leader in Export Performance”

TİM Chairman İsmail Gülle expressed that Ferrous and Non Ferrous Metals sector has made exports exceeding $5bn in the first 8 months of the year and added “we successfully completed the first eight months of 2020 despite the challenging outlook in global trade. We even exceeded last year with our daily trade figures. Ferrous and Non Ferrous Metals sector is among the leading sectors that support our general export performance. Sector exported over $5bn in the first eight months of 2020. When we examine the exports of our sector, especially country groups, we see that our exporters have made a long way in diversifying markets.

Ferrous and Non Ferrous Metals sector is among the sectors that positively contribute to unit value of our exports. Sector is among the leaders in export unit price with $3.29 in the first eight months of the year. Furthermore, I would like to announce proudly that all our companies whether awarded or not, perform a major duty.”

79 awards were given in 26 categories in “Metallic Stars of Export” award ceremony.  In the event where 27 associations were thanked for their support, İDDMİB Export Champions were Sarkuysan Elektrolitik Bakır Sanayi, Asaş Alüminyum Sanayi and Mega Metal Sanayi. In Leaders of Export Kibar Dış Ticaret, Sarkuysan Elektrolitik Bakır Sanayi, Re-Ma Metal and Yapı Merkezi İnşaat were awarded.
